Frank Vincent Zappa, born on December 21, 1940 in Baltimore and died on December 4, 1993 in Los Angeles, is an American musician, guitarist, songwriter, performer, sound engineer, producer, satirist and director.
His work covers several distinct genres: rock, jazz and classical music, as well as a link to concrete music. Zappa has also occasionally been a producer of music films and videos, and a designer of album covers, which he has also produced in their entirety. Throughout his career, he has released more than sixty albums that he recorded with the Mothers of Invention or, for the most part, under his own name.
