Serge Gainsbourg, whose real name is Lucien Ginsburg, born and died in Paris (April 2, 1928 - March 2, 1991), is a French singer-songwriter, poet, pianist, painter, scriptwriter, director, writer, actor and filmmaker. He gained notoriety as an author-composer-performer, addressing many musical styles. He will also try his hand at cinema and literature, and will make several films and video clips and compose more than forty film scores. In the mid-1950s, he used the pseudonyms Julien Gris and Julien Grix before choosing Serge Gainsbourg as his artist name. In the 1980s, he also invented an alter ego called Gainsbarre.
