Charles Aznavour, born Shahnourh Varinag Aznavourian on May 22, 1924 in Paris and died on October 1, 2018 in Mouriès (Bouches-du-Rhône), is a French-Armenian singer-songwriter, actor and writer.
During his musical career, which began in the 1940s, he recorded nearly one thousand two hundred songs performed in several languages: in French, English, Italian, Spanish, German, Armenian, Neapolitan, Russian and at the end of his career in Kabyle.
He has written or co-written more than a thousand songs, either for himself or for other artists.
He is one of the most famous French singers outside the French-speaking world, described as "the divinity of French pop" by music critic Stephen Holden.
In parallel with his musical career, Charles Aznavour leads an acting career, appearing in sixty-three feature films as well as in TV movies.
Without denying his French culture, he represented Armenia in several international diplomatic bodies from 1995 and obtained Armenian nationality in 2008.
