France Gall, the stage name of Isabelle Gall, who was born on 9 October 1947 in the 12th arrondissement of Paris and died on 7 January 2018 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, is a French singer.
She began singing and making music as a child with her brothers before recording her first album. She was the symbol of a gently irreverent youth with hits such as Sacré Charlemagne, which were taken up by choirs and schools. Her popularity spread beyond the borders in 1965, when she won first prize at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Poupée de cire, poupée de son, composed by Serge Gainsbourg.
Later that year she met the songwriter Michel Berger, whom she married in 1976. France Gall went on to score a major hit with the singer, recording a series of hit singles including La Déclaration d'amour, Si, maman si, Il jouait du piano debout, Résiste, Débranche, Diego libre dans sa tête, Babacar, Ella, elle l'a and Évidemment.
